Qahwa

The Turkish coffee making process has been designed to happen in the kitchen environment, away from the living space-where people come together. It has not been considered as a complete system. The coffee pot and heating element have been separate processes and disconnected both visually and functionally.

In developing the form, I took inspiration from iconic Ottoman architecture and from the natural shape of a flame, giving visual cue to the functionality of the product. The product is made of B-mix clay and perforated aluminium. The heat source is a removable dish filled with Sterno gel.
